Our story
The birth of Marrakeche Crafts
At Marrakeche Crafts, our story is one of passion, determination, and a deep love for Moroccan culture. It all began with our founder, Mohamed, who had a vision to showcase the beauty of traditional Moroccan dresses through the Caftan Mastery Project. Not only did this project celebrate the rich history of Moroccan fashion, but it also provided local artisans with a platform to showcase their craft and generate income.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic hit Marrakech hard, leaving many local artisans struggling to keep their businesses afloat. Witnessing this hardship, Mohamed and his friend Houssam decided to take action and help these artisans by creating the Marrakeche Crafts online store. Despite the challenges they faced, their passion for Moroccan culture and love for their community fueled their efforts.
The Marrakeche Crafts online store quickly became more than just an e-commerce platform. It became a mission to support and empower local artisans, while preserving the unique and authentic Moroccan art and crafts. Our team works with local artisans to bring their handmade crafts to a global audience, providing them with the opportunity to earn a fair income and continue their traditional crafts.
We work with artisans and workshops across Marrakech and the Middle Atlas. Each one we can name has a profile on this site — their craft, where they work, how long they have been doing it, and the specific techniques they use. We deal with them directly, and we name the maker wherever we can.
At Marrakeche Crafts, we are more than just an online store. We are a representation of the beauty and cultural richness of Morocco, and a testament to the power of community and the spirit of resilience. We strive to continue to make a positive impact on the Marrakech community, and to share the unique and authentic Moroccan crafts with the world.

Our artisans work with natural materials — wool, doum palm, raffia, goatskin, clay, brass, and recycled glass — in small workshops rather than factories. Younes blows his glass from recycled bottles. Omar tans goatskin with pomegranate rind, indigo, and henna rather than chemicals.

Plastic bags end up in oceans and landfills. Our straw bags are a lasting alternative: Dounia and the women of her cooperative weave them by hand from doum palm cut in the Marrakech palmeraie and raffia from Essaouira, finished with leather trim. Each bag takes hours of skill and patience, and no two are identical.
