Hasna’s Story

Hasna began as an apprentice in the women’s embroidery cooperative near Bab Doukkala — where ribbon embroidery is passed from senior craftswomen to new members in year-long teaching cycles. A single damask medallion on a 44 cm cover takes her approximately four hours to complete by hand, the satin ribbon passing beneath the base fabric and surfacing as dimensional petals and starbursts. Hasna, the ribbon embroidery craftswoman, produces every piece in this collection under her own name.
