A hanging lamp is where Moroccan craft performs at its best. Suspended from the ceiling, a hand-pierced brass pendant becomes a shadow projector — its geometric cutwork throwing arabesque patterns across walls and ceiling that expand and shift as the room warms. A woven palm leaf pendant does the opposite: it absorbs the ceiling height and brings the eye down, filling a tall space with warmth and organic texture.

This collection brings both traditions together in a single browsable range. Brass and copper pendants span 20cm intimate accent pieces ($125) to 60cm statement chandeliers ($665+), with dome, globe, cone, drum, and teardrop forms in plain hammered, engraved, black-and-gold, verdigris copper, and brushed finishes. The hand-engraved Brass Teardrop Pendant (26″, $849) and the Tall Engraved Brass Pendant Lamp at 75cm ($1,125) are our most architectural pieces. Natural fiber pendants include palm leaf domes, conical shades, bell shapes with fringe, and the Grand Straw Chandelier ($152) — all handwoven by Dounia and Al Amal cooperative.

Hanging Height Guide: For dining tables, hang the pendant 70–80cm above the table surface. For entryways and hallways, the lowest point of the shade should clear head height by at least 20cm. For bedroom pendants replacing bedside lamps, position the centre of the shade at shoulder height when seated (approximately 120–140cm from floor). For cluster installations, vary the heights by 15–25cm between pendants for a natural, collected effect.

All pieces use standard E26/E27 sockets, are LED-compatible, and ship free worldwide.

Moroccan Hanging Lamp Questions Answered

How high should a Moroccan hanging lamp be positioned?

Over a dining table: hang the bottom of the shade 70–80cm above the table surface. In an entryway or hallway: the lowest point of the pendant should sit at least 200cm from the floor to clear head height. For living room statement pendants: 180–200cm from floor to bottom of shade. For bedroom pendants used as bedside lights: centre the shade at around 130–140cm from the floor when mounted beside the bed. In rooms with high ceilings (3m+), go larger with the shade — small pendants get lost in tall spaces.

Can you cluster multiple Moroccan pendants together?

Yes — clustering is one of the most effective ways to use smaller pendants. Three to five brass pendants hung at varying heights (stagger by 15–25cm) over a dining table, kitchen island, or entryway creates a dramatic effect that a single large fitting cannot replicate. For clustering, choose pendants from the same material family (all brass, or all straw) but you can mix sizes and shapes. Odd numbers (3 or 5) read more naturally than even numbers.

Do hanging lamps come with ceiling canopies and cords?

Brass pendant lamps in our collection are supplied as complete units with the shade, fitting, and suspension cord. Straw lampshades are sold as shades only, as cord length requirements vary by ceiling height. For straw pendants, a standard pendant cord kit with E26/E27 lampholder (available from any hardware store) provides everything needed. If you are unsure what is included in a specific product, the product description specifies — or contact us before ordering.

How do Moroccan hanging lamps work in modern interiors?

Very well — the most popular use case in our customer base is actually contemporary and minimalist interiors, not "Moroccan-style" rooms. A single hand-pierced brass dome pendant over a white dining table in a Scandinavian-inspired kitchen creates the kind of intentional contrast that defines modern bohemian and warm minimalist design. The rule of thumb: one statement Moroccan pendant in an otherwise simple room is far more effective than multiple competing elements.

What ceiling types are these pendants suitable for?

Our brass pendant lamps are suitable for standard flat ceilings, sloped ceilings (with an angled canopy), and open-beam or exposed joist ceilings using a standard hook and cord. Concrete ceilings require an anchor bolt installation — we recommend a licensed electrician for all hardwired ceiling installations. For rented properties or those who prefer not to hardwire, plug-in pendant cord kits allow most of our hanging lamps to be used with a standard outlet and a ceiling hook, with no electrical work required.
