Omar, the Marrakech leather craftsman, works inside the Bab Debbagh tannery district — Marrakech’s centuries-old leather quarter where hides are still soaked in limestone vats and moved through natural dye baths the way they have been for five hundred years. He selects full-grain goat leather (the strongest layer of the hide, with the grain surface intact), cuts each panel by hand, and stitches every seam with waxed thread. Bab Debbagh-tanned vegetable leather from Marrakech is among the few remaining places on earth where the full tanning cycle — from raw hide to finished leather — happens within two kilometers of where the bag is assembled.

Care and Longevity

Vegetable-tanned goat leather rewards simple care: wipe clean with a damp cloth, condition every three to six months with a beeswax or lanolin balm, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight. A light pleasant leather scent is normal when the bag arrives — it fades naturally within a few weeks.
