The Weaving Tradition Behind This Rug

This rug is woven in the Mrirt tradition of the Middle Atlas highlands, where Amazigh women have hand-knotted wool floor coverings for generations using locally sourced fleece and natural vegetable dyes. Mrirt rugs are distinguished by their medium pile, geometric block compositions, and the use of vegetable dyes that soften gracefully over decades of use. The work is carried out by the Tiftilin weavers of the Middle Atlas, Amazigh women who preserve this craft in the cedar-forested mountain region south of Fès. Every piece is made to order after purchase and follows the design shown in the product photographs, with natural handmade and dye-lot variations expected.

Care & Longevity

Natural wool rewards straightforward care. Vacuum weekly on the lowest suction setting without a beater bar, rotate the rug every six months to distribute wear evenly, and spot-clean spills with cold water and mild soap only — never steam-clean or machine-wash.
