The Weavers Behind This Rug

This rug is woven by the Tiftilin weavers of the Middle Atlas — Amazigh women who have carried this craft from mother to daughter across generations in the cedar-forested highlands south of Fès. Mrirt-style rugs are hand-knotted on vertical looms using techniques specific to the Middle Atlas region, where the cool mountain climate produces thick, resilient wool. The Mrirt weaving tradition is recognized as one of the most skilled branches of Amazigh textile craft, producing rugs with a denser knot count and more defined geometric lines than many neighboring styles. Every piece is made to order with natural vegetable dyes, so small variations in shade and pattern detail are a natural hallmark of the handwoven process.
