Eight hand-crafted pieces with a teapot that stands on four feet — a footed form that lifts it above the tray and gives the service its architectural presence. Six mouth-blown beldi glasses carry the natural aqua tone that only recycled glass blown at over 1,200°C can produce. Not dyed. Not coated. Mineral-born colour that shifts between pieces and makes each glass its own.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Footed Teapot Design: The ornate teapot sits on four small feet, elevating it above the tray for a refined ceremonial presentation distinct from standard flat-base teapots.
  • Natural Aqua Beldi Glass: Six mouth-blown glasses in natural aqua — the colour comes from mineral content in recycled glass, not dye or coating, making each glass slightly unique.
  • Naqsh Engraving Throughout: Cross-and-interlace geometric patterns hand-engraved on the teapot, wide arabesque silver bands on each glass, and matching engraving on the tray create a visually unified eight-piece service.
  • Complete 8-Piece Service: One footed teapot, six beldi glasses with engraved silver band, and one round engraved tray — everything needed for a ceremonial atay for six.
  • Glasses Available Separately: The six engraved beldi glasses are also sold as a standalone set — shop the Clear Tea Glasses with Silver Filigree Band.

The Artisan Story

The teapot and tray are made by Kamal’s team in Marrakech’s medina using naqsh — the traditional metalworking technique in which geometric and arabesque patterns are applied directly into silver-plated brass using a steel chisel, with no machine engraving. The bell-shaped dome lid narrows to a stacked-ring finial, and the entire teapot body carries tight cross-and-interlace repeat motifs referencing Moroccan tilework and carved plasterwork. Read about Kamal’s craft and the naqsh tradition.

The six beldi glasses are mouth-blown by Younes, who works near Marrakech’s Madrasat Ben Youssef using recycled glass and iron blowpipes. The aqua tone in each glass is incidental — not chosen — which is why it shifts slightly between pieces and batches. Each glass carries a wide engraved silver band at the rim, connecting the glasses visually to the teapot. Meet Younes and his glassblowing practice. Learn how beldi glass is made. The silver footed teapot in this set is also sold individually — shop the Silver Engraved Footed Teapot.

Buyer’s Guide & Common Inquiries

Q: Why is the glass colour natural aqua and not green or blue?
A: The aqua tone comes from the mineral content of recycled glass blown at over 1,200°C — it is not a dye or glaze. The exact shade varies slightly between pieces and batches, which is a mark of authentic beldi glass, not a defect.

Q: Can the beldi glasses withstand hot tea?
A: Yes. Mouth-blown beldi glass handles hot liquids as it has been used for Moroccan tea service for generations. Pour carefully and avoid placing cold glasses directly on extreme heat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What components are included in a complete Moroccan tea set?

A: An authentic Moroccan tea set includes the berrad (teapot), siniya (engraved serving tray), and kisan (decorated tea glasses). Our complete sets typically include the teapot, serving tray, 6 traditional tea glasses, and a sugar bowl. The teapot and tray are crafted from brass or silver-plated copper, featuring intricate hand-engraved patterns that showcase traditional Moroccan artistry.

Q: Are your tea sets safe for food use?

A: Yes, absolutely. Our tea sets are made from food-grade materials that are lead-free and non-toxic. Each piece has been rigorously tested to ensure it is free of toxic substances and heavy metals. The brass and silver-plated copper used in our teapots and trays meet all food-safety standards, and all solder points are lead-free and certified food-grade. You can brew and serve tea with complete confidence.

Q: Can I use your teapots to actually brew tea on the stove?

A: Yes! Our functional teapots are designed with a flat bottom that allows them to be placed directly on the stove during traditional tea preparation. They're heat-resistant and built to withstand the authentic brewing process. When shopping for tea sets, avoid decorative teapots with small ornate feet—those are for serving only and cannot handle direct heat. Our teapots are crafted for daily use and will last for decades.

Q: How do I clean and maintain my brass or silver-plated tea set?

A: Brass and silver-plated copper require gentle care to maintain their beautiful shine:

  • Regular cleaning: Hand wash with warm water and mild soap, then dry immediately
  • Remove tarnish naturally: Rub with half a lemon coated in salt, then buff with a soft cloth
  • Deep cleaning: Make a paste with lemon juice and cream of tartar (1:2 ratio), apply for 30 minutes, rinse with warm water, and buff dry
  • Avoid: Dishwashers and abrasive cleaners that can damage engravings

For complete care instructions, visit our guide on how to clean and polish brass and how to clean your teapot.

Q: How do I make authentic Moroccan mint tea with my tea set?

A: Quick brewing steps:

  1. Warm the teapot by swirling boiling water inside, then discard
  2. Wash the tea: Add 1-2 tablespoons gunpowder green tea, pour small amount of boiling water, swirl, and discard
  3. Brew: Fill teapot two-thirds with boiling water, add a large handful of fresh mint (slightly crushed) and 2-3 sugar cubes
  4. Steep: Let steep 3-5 minutes or place back on stove to near-boil
  5. Mix: Pour into a glass and back into the pot several times until sugar dissolves and foam forms (never stir!)
  6. Serve: Pour from a height to create the signature foam and aerate the tea

For the complete traditional recipe, visit our authentic Moroccan mint tea guide or learn about the complete Moroccan tea ceremony tradition.

Q: Why is Moroccan tea poured from such a great height?

A: The elevated pour is the signature of the tea ceremony and serves multiple purposes:

  • Mixes the sugar evenly without stirring
  • Cools the tea to the perfect drinking temperature
  • Creates foam on top, which symbolizes purity and proper preparation
  • Shows respect to the guest—the height of the pour demonstrates the host's skill and honor

This dramatic technique transforms tea service into a beautiful ritual of hospitality.

Q: What is the cultural significance of serving three rounds of tea?

A: The three rounds of Moroccan tea represent life's journey:

  • First glass (Bitter as life): Represents hardship and challenges
  • Second glass (Strong as love): Symbolizes endurance and commitment
  • Third glass (Sweet as death): Signifies peace, harmony, and fulfillment

Each pour becomes progressively sweeter and more mellow. Sharing all three rounds is a gesture of complete hospitality and strengthens bonds between host and guest.

Q: What's the proper etiquette when served Moroccan tea?

A:

  • Always accept the first glass—declining is considered impolite as it rejects the host's hospitality
  • Receive the glass with your right hand (traditional custom)
  • Sip slowly and engage in conversation between sips
  • To politely decline more tea, say "Baraka" (blessing/enough) after finishing your glass

In Moroccan culture, sharing tea is about connection and taking time together, not about how much you drink.

Q: How should I care for the tea glasses that come with my set?

A: Our traditional tea glasses are durable but require gentle handling:

  • Hand wash with warm, soapy water (dishwashers can fade decorative patterns)
  • Dry immediately to prevent water spots
  • Handle carefully when filled with hot tea—hold by the rim between thumb and finger
  • Store safely with padding between glasses to prevent chipping

The glasses are designed to showcase the beautiful amber color of the tea and its signature foam.

Q: What's the difference between brass and silver-plated copper tea sets?

Both materials are authentic and traditional:

Brass tea sets:

  • Rich golden color that develops character over time
  • Excellent durability for daily use
  • Easier to maintain and restore shine
  • More affordable option

Silver-plated copper tea sets:

  • Elegant silver finish with copper's superior heat conductivity
  • Copper heats quickly and evenly for optimal brewing
  • Premium aesthetic for special occasions
  • Requires slightly more care to maintain silver plating

Both are food-safe, lead-free, and hand-engraved by master artisans. Choose based on your aesthetic preference and intended use frequency.
