This antique brass pendant light is a full half-dome of brass, hand-hammered all over and finished in two tones: an aged, antique brass exterior and a bright, polished interior. When the bulb is on, the polished inside catches the light and throws it downward in a warm golden pool, while every hammer mark on the inner surface scatters small reflections across the shade. Switched off, the darker outside keeps the pendant reading as a solid sculptural form against a pale ceiling.

Dinanderie, Shaped by Hand

The shade is made using Dinanderie, the Moroccan craft of hand-hammering flat brass sheet into three-dimensional form with a progression of hammer heads and an iron anvil. No two blows are identical, so every dome carries its own pattern of facets. It comes from the workshop of Abdul Jalil, the master lamp artisan of Souq Nhas, Marrakech’s old copper and brass market, where he has worked at the same bench for over 30 years.
