A Green Cactus Silk Rug That Brings the Atlas Weaving Tradition Indoors and Out
This green cactus silk rug is handwoven from a cactus silk and wool blend using natural vegetable dyes that give the sage-green ground its quiet depth. Scattered geometric Berber motifs in blue, orange, and cream punctuate the surface — each one embroidered, not printed, following techniques passed from mother to daughter among Amazigh weavers. At 39.4 x 59.1 in (100 x 150 cm), this flatweave rug is sized for entryways, bedside, or layered under a coffee table, and its tight weave stands up to foot traffic inside and sheltered outdoor use. Each rug is woven to order — please allow approximately 30 days for production before shipping.
What Sets This Sabra Rug Apart
- Dimensions: 39.4 x 59.1 in (100 x 150 cm) — ideal for entryways, bedside, or layered seating arrangements
- Pile height: Flatweave — a thin, tight weave that works in high-traffic areas and covered outdoor spaces
- Material: Cactus silk and wool blend — Agave Sabra fibers give a natural luster and antimicrobial finish alongside wool’s durability
- Pattern: Geometric Berber motifs — hand-embroidered symbols in blue, orange, and cream on a sage-green base
- Dyes: Natural/vegetable dyes — color comes from plant-based pigments, not synthetic chemicals
- Natural variation: Slight shade differences between batches are inherent to natural vegetable dyes — each rug is made to order in the same style and size
Woven in the Atlas Mountains Tradition
The Agave Sabra plant, harvested in the arid valleys of southern Morocco, yields a silky fiber that artisans spin and blend with wool to create the lustrous threads in this rug. Sabra silk has been produced in Morocco for centuries using the same extraction and spinning process, giving each rug a natural sheen and antimicrobial quality that synthetic fibers cannot replicate. This rug is woven in the Atlas Mountains tradition by the Tiftilin weavers of the Middle Atlas — Amazigh women whose craft heritage extends across the full range of Moroccan textile making, from thick-pile Beni Ourain to fine flatweaves like this one.
Care & Longevity
Cactus silk and wool flatweaves respond well to simple, consistent care. Vacuum regularly on a low suction setting (no beater bar), rotate the rug every six months to even out wear, and spot-clean only with cold water and mild soap. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the vegetable dyes. For detailed care guidance, visit our Moroccan wool rug care guide, which covers Sabra blends as well.
For Interior Designers & Trade Buyers

Questions About This Rug
Is this rug reversible?
Yes. The flatweave construction means both sides are fully finished and equally usable. Flipping it occasionally is the simplest way to extend the rug’s life and distribute wear evenly — it takes seconds and needs no tools. Both sides display the same Berber geometric pattern; the sabra fibres produce the same natural lustre on each face.
Can this rug be used outdoors?
A sheltered outdoor space — a covered terrace, a loggia, or a shaded patio — is fine for occasional use. Prolonged direct sunlight will gradually fade the natural vegetable dyes, and the rug should be allowed to dry completely before rolling or storing if it gets damp. Do not leave it outside in rain or on wet ground; the cactus silk and wool blend does not tolerate sustained moisture.
What does cactus silk (sabra) feel like compared to animal silk?
Sabra has a smooth, cool surface with a distinctive natural lustre — very similar to animal silk in sheen and feel, but with a slightly firmer hand. Because it comes from the fibrous leaf of the agave plant rather than an animal source, it is entirely plant-based and more robust than traditional silk under everyday conditions. The blend of sabra and hand-spun wool in this rug balances the sheen of cactus silk with the warmth and texture of wool.
