A Compact Leather Pouf with Warmth and Purpose
This cognac square leather pouf brings the warmth of hand-dyed goat leather into any corner of your home. Measuring 15.7 x 15.7 x 13.0 in (40 x 40 x 33 cm), the compact square footprint tucks neatly beside a reading chair, beneath a console, or at the foot of the bed — a footrest, an extra seat for guests, or a sturdy surface for a tray. In Marrakech’s Souk Talaa workshops, each goat hide is hand-selected and hand-dyed, producing tonal shifts from caramel to tobacco that no machine process can replicate. The plain six-panel surface lets the natural grain of full-grain leather speak without embroidery or embellishment.
Construction & Surface Detail
- Square shape: 15.7 x 15.7 x 15.7 in (40 x 40 x 40 cm) — compact enough for tight spaces, wide enough to sit on comfortably
- Full-grain goat leather: soft enough to drape when seated, with natural grain texture that deepens with use
- Cognac distressed finish: hand-dyed in warm tones ranging from lighter caramel to deeper tobacco; slight color variation between panels is normal for hand-dyed leather and marks each pouf as one of a kind
- Six-panel construction with piped edges: each panel cut and joined by hand, with raised piping along every seam
- Concealed zipper closure at the base for filling and refilling
- Filled or unfilled: ships flat (unfilled) by default to lower freight cost, with a filled option available
- Weight capacity: holds up to ~250 lb (115 kg) when filled
The Craft Behind This Pouf
Abdelilah, the master leather artisan behind our poufs, works in the Souk Talaa leather district of Marrakech, selecting goat hides for consistent thickness before hand-cutting each panel to a template and stitching every seam by hand. The six-panel square construction uses a piped-edge technique: a narrow leather strip is sandwiched between adjacent panels and stitched through all three layers at once, creating a visible raised ridge that protects the seam and distributes seating stress across the stitch rather than the hide. Full-grain goat leather poufs hand-stitched in Marrakech soften with use while maintaining structural integrity, developing a rich patina over years of daily seating.
Filling Your Pouf
This pouf ships flat and unfilled by default. Fill it at home with shredded foam, recycled fabric scraps, or densely packed old clothing — materials that hold their shape under load. Do not use loose polyfill or feathers, which shift and flatten quickly. For exact fill volumes and step-by-step guidance, follow our step-by-step guide to filling your pouf.
Care
Wipe the leather surface with a barely damp cloth; never saturate. Condition two to three times a year to keep the goat leather supple and prevent cracking. Full care instructions, including stain removal and storage tips, are in our leather care guide.

For Interior Designers & Trade Buyers
Interior designers, hospitality buyers, and retail stores ordering in volume are welcome to enquire about our wholesale program for interiors, hospitality, and retail buyers. This square pouf is available in cognac and other finishes across mixed-size orders — a fitting piece for someone furnishing a warm, characterful room.
A: We offer both options! You can choose a pre-stuffed pouf with premium polyester filling ready to use, or select the unstuffed version with a bottom zipper to fill yourself. The unstuffed option dramatically reduces shipping costs and allows you to customize the firmness to your preference.
A: For a 16x16" square: 50-60 ounces of polyester fiberfill. For 18x18": 60-70 ounces. You can also use old clothes or towels—about 3/4 to one full laundry basket compressed tightly.
A: This is critical! Pack all four corners FIRST, pushing filling deep into each corner until they're very firm. Then stuff the edges, and fill the center last. Soft corners = saggy pouf. The corners should feel almost hard initially. See our complete filling guide.
A: They weren't packed firmly enough. Unzip and add more filling specifically to the corners. Square poufs need extra-firm corner packing to maintain their angular shape—this is the #1 mistake people make.
A: Very, very firm—especially in the corners. It should feel too hard when you first fill it. The square shape loses definition quickly if under-stuffed, unlike round poufs which are more forgiving.
A: Yes! When properly filled (especially the corners), this square pouf supports up to 250 pounds. Make sure corners are packed tight for stability—soft corners make it feel unstable when you sit.
A: Yes! The flat edges align perfectly with furniture and don't roll or shift. The angular top is more stable for trays, drinks, or books. It looks intentional as a table, not improvised.
A: Wipe all surfaces with a soft, dry cloth weekly—the flat top collects dust. Blot spills immediately. Pay attention to the corner seams; use a small brush to clean dust from edges. Condition the leather every 6-12 months.
A: 2-3 days for production, then 7-15 days standard shipping (USA/Europe) with free shipping. Square poufs pack flatter than round ones, making them economical to ship. Express options available.
A: Yes, handcrafted in Marrakech by master artisans. Creating perfect 90-degree corners in leather requires exceptional skill. With proper care and firm stuffing, it will last 10-20+ years. The leather develops a beautiful patina over time.
