A Compact Ottoman, Handcrafted in Marrakech
This square leather ottoman 16 inch brings Marrakech handcraft into compact living spaces. Handcrafted from full-grain goatskin in Marrakech’s Souk Talaa leather district, each cube is hand-cut and hand-stitched — a footrest, extra seat, and side table in one. The light brown leather carries natural tonal variation across its panels, while cream contrast stitching traces every seam, adding a contemporary rhythm to traditional Moroccan construction.
Construction & Surface Detail
- Square shape: 15.7 x 15.7 x 15.7 in (40 x 40 x 40 cm) — sized for apartments, reading nooks, and beside desks
- Full-grain goatskin leather: supple yet resilient; goatskin drapes slightly when seated, giving this ottoman a comfort that stiffer cowhide does not
- Cream contrast stitching: hand-stitched panel seams with visible thread tracing each join
- Hidden zipper closure: a concealed zipper at the base lets you fill or refill the cover yourself
- Slight color variation: natural in hand-dyed leather — tonal shifts between panels are a mark of the handmade process, not a defect
- Ships flat (unfilled) by default: lowers freight cost; fill at home with shredded foam, recycled fabric scraps, or old clothes — do not use loose polyfill or feathers. A filled option is also available
- Weight capacity: holds up to ~250 lb (115 kg) when filled
The Craft Behind This Ottoman
Abdelilah, the master leather artisan behind our poufs, works in the souk workshops of Marrakech, hand-selecting goatskin for consistent thickness before cutting each panel to template. The seams are sewn through both layers of leather simultaneously — a technique that locks each panel against the next and creates a visible raised ridge along every join. Each ottoman is handcrafted from full-grain goatskin in Marrakech’s Souk Talaa leather district, where artisans hand-cut every panel to template before stitching it into a single cube.
Filling Your Ottoman
This ottoman ships flat and unfilled by default to reduce shipping weight and cost. Fill it yourself with shredded foam, recycled fabric scraps, or densely packed old clothing — materials that hold shape under load without compressing flat over time. Follow our step-by-step guide to filling your pouf for exact fill volumes, recommended materials, and how to achieve a firm sit height. A filled option is also available at checkout.
Care
Wipe the goatskin surface with a barely damp cloth; never saturate. Condition two to three times a year to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking. Full guidance, including storage and stain removal, is in our leather care guide.

For Interior Designers & Trade Buyers

A: We offer both options! You can choose a pre-stuffed pouf with premium polyester filling ready to use, or select the unstuffed version with a bottom zipper to fill yourself. The unstuffed option dramatically reduces shipping costs and allows you to customize the firmness to your preference.
A: For a 16x16" square: 50-60 ounces of polyester fiberfill. For 18x18": 60-70 ounces. You can also use old clothes or towels—about 3/4 to one full laundry basket compressed tightly.
A: This is critical! Pack all four corners FIRST, pushing filling deep into each corner until they're very firm. Then stuff the edges, and fill the center last. Soft corners = saggy pouf. The corners should feel almost hard initially. See our complete filling guide.
A: They weren't packed firmly enough. Unzip and add more filling specifically to the corners. Square poufs need extra-firm corner packing to maintain their angular shape—this is the #1 mistake people make.
A: Very, very firm—especially in the corners. It should feel too hard when you first fill it. The square shape loses definition quickly if under-stuffed, unlike round poufs which are more forgiving.
A: Yes! When properly filled (especially the corners), this square pouf supports up to 250 pounds. Make sure corners are packed tight for stability—soft corners make it feel unstable when you sit.
A: Yes! The flat edges align perfectly with furniture and don't roll or shift. The angular top is more stable for trays, drinks, or books. It looks intentional as a table, not improvised.
A: Wipe all surfaces with a soft, dry cloth weekly—the flat top collects dust. Blot spills immediately. Pay attention to the corner seams; use a small brush to clean dust from edges. Condition the leather every 6-12 months.
A: 2-3 days for production, then 7-15 days standard shipping (USA/Europe) with free shipping. Square poufs pack flatter than round ones, making them economical to ship. Express options available.
A: Yes, handcrafted in Marrakech by master artisans. Creating perfect 90-degree corners in leather requires exceptional skill. With proper care and firm stuffing, it will last 10-20+ years. The leather develops a beautiful patina over time.
