The Artisan Behind This Bag

Omar, the Marrakech leather craftsman, works in the Bab Debbagh quarter — the district where raw hides are still soaked in limestone vats and dyed with pomegranate rind, indigo, and henna in the traditional vegetable-tanning process. He selects full-grain leather for its fine grain and supple hand, cuts each panel by hand against a steel template, and presses the floral medallions using traditional hand tools. Bab Debbagh remains one of the few tannery districts in the world where the complete cycle — from raw hide to finished leather — still happens within two kilometers of where the bag is stitched.
