A Rectangular Leather Ottoman Built for Real Life

At 36 inches long, this rectangular leather ottoman offers the generous surface that square and round poufs can’t — enough length to stretch your legs, set down a tray, or seat a guest comfortably. Handcrafted in Marrakech from full-grain goatskin, the warm brown leather develops natural tonal variation and patina with use, making each piece one of a kind.

Construction & Surface Detail

  • Rectangular shape — the extended length works as a footrest, low seat, or stable tray surface
  • Full-grain goatskin leather — supple yet durable; natural grain variations and hand-rubbed patina give each pouf distinct character
  • Contrasting cream topstitching — visible hand-stitched seams reinforce the multi-panel construction
  • Hidden zipper — a concealed bottom zipper lets you fill, adjust, or refill the pouf
  • Slight color variation — natural with hand-dyed leather; tonal shifts between panels are a mark of handmade craft, not a defect
  • Ships flat (unfilled) or pre-filled — the unfilled option lowers freight cost; the pre-filled option arrives ready to use
  • Weight capacity: holds up to ~250 lb (115 kg) when filled

The Craft Behind This Pouf

Abdelilah, the master leather artisan behind our poufs, works in the Souk Talaa leather district of Marrakech, where generations of craftsmen have cut, stitched, and assembled leather poufs by hand. Each rectangular pouf is hand-cut from full-grain goatskin — a leather chosen for its softness underfoot and its ability to hold shape under daily use. Full-grain goatskin poufs, hand-cut and hand-stitched in Marrakech’s Souk Talaa district, carry visible cream topstitching that reinforces each seam and distributes stress across the stitch rather than the hide.

Filling Your Pouf

This pouf ships flat and unfilled by default, keeping shipping weight low. Fill it at home with shredded foam, recycled fabric scraps, or densely packed old clothing — materials that hold shape under load without compressing flat. Avoid loose polyfill or feathers, which shift and flatten over time. Follow our step-by-step guide to filling your pouf for recommended fill volumes and how to achieve a firm, comfortable seat height.

Care

Wipe the leather surface with a barely damp cloth; never saturate. Condition two to three times a year to keep the goatskin supple and prevent cracking. Full guidance, including stain removal and seasonal care, is in our leather care guide.

A Piece for Every Room

Whether pulled beside the sofa as a footrest, placed at the foot of the bed, or set in an entryway with a book on top, this rectangular pouf earns its place — and it makes an understated housewarming gift for someone furnishing a home with character. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does this square pouf come filled or empty?

A: We offer both options! You can choose a pre-stuffed pouf with premium polyester filling ready to use, or select the unstuffed version with a bottom zipper to fill yourself. The unstuffed option dramatically reduces shipping costs and allows you to customize the firmness to your preference.

Q: What do I fill it with and how much?

A: For a 16x16" square: 50-60 ounces of polyester fiberfill. For 18x18": 60-70 ounces. You can also use old clothes or towels—about 3/4 to one full laundry basket compressed tightly.

Q: How do I fill a square pouf so the corners don't look saggy?

A: This is critical! Pack all four corners FIRST, pushing filling deep into each corner until they're very firm. Then stuff the edges, and fill the center last. Soft corners = saggy pouf. The corners should feel almost hard initially. See our complete filling guide.

Q: Why are the corners of my square pouf collapsing?

A: They weren't packed firmly enough. Unzip and add more filling specifically to the corners. Square poufs need extra-firm corner packing to maintain their angular shape—this is the #1 mistake people make.

Q: How firm should a square pouf be?

A: Very, very firm—especially in the corners. It should feel too hard when you first fill it. The square shape loses definition quickly if under-stuffed, unlike round poufs which are more forgiving.

Q: Can it hold a person's weight?

A: Yes! When properly filled (especially the corners), this square pouf supports up to 250 pounds. Make sure corners are packed tight for stability—soft corners make it feel unstable when you sit.

Q: Is a square pouf better than round for using as a table?

A: Yes! The flat edges align perfectly with furniture and don't roll or shift. The angular top is more stable for trays, drinks, or books. It looks intentional as a table, not improvised.

Q: How do I clean the leather on a square pouf?

A: Wipe all surfaces with a soft, dry cloth weekly—the flat top collects dust. Blot spills immediately. Pay attention to the corner seams; use a small brush to clean dust from edges. Condition the leather every 6-12 months.

Q: How long does shipping take?

A: 2-3 days for production, then 7-15 days standard shipping (USA/Europe) with free shipping. Square poufs pack flatter than round ones, making them economical to ship. Express options available.

Q: Is this handmade and how long will it last?

A: Yes, handcrafted in Marrakech by master artisans. Creating perfect 90-degree corners in leather requires exceptional skill. With proper care and firm stuffing, it will last 10-20+ years. The leather develops a beautiful patina over time.

I love our new ottoman. It adds warmth to our living room. The quality is superb, especially around the zipper, which is extremely important as you stuff it. I’ve had pillows which tear when inserting the cushion. This one is very sturdy and it requires a lot of filling. I’m happy with the color as it is exactly as the photo included in the description. For me, the stitching gives it a more modern look which ties in the rest of our furniture. I am going to order another one. Mr. Houssam’s responses to my questions and communications regarding shipment status were remarkable. I recommended to a friend and recommend to potential buyers.
