This perforated brass wall sconce pairs two slim brass cylinders on a square wall plate, one reaching up and one reaching down. Rows of small holes, each made by hand with specialised tools, turn every cylinder into a lantern: light beams from the open ends onto the wall above and below, while the perforations scatter a fine pattern of light dots across the surface around it. A textured centre band with a denser pattern joins the two cylinders to the wall arm.

Hand-Perforated Brass
Each opening in the cylinders is made by hand, row by row, with specialised tools. The spacing carries the slight irregularity of handwork rather than the uniform grid of a machine-punched sheet, and that variation is what gives the projected light its soft, organic sparkle. The centre band uses a tighter, more textured pattern so it reads as a solid collar between the two glowing tubes.
The Artisan Behind the Sconce
This sconce comes from the workshop of Abdul Jalil, the master lamp artisan of Souq Nhas, Marrakech’s old copper and brass market, where he has worked at the same bench for over 30 years making lanterns, pendants and wall sconces in brass and copper.
Where It Works Best
The slim 10 cm profile suits tight spaces where a bulky sconce would crowd the room. Hung in pairs, it frames a mirror, a headboard or a large painting; repeated down a hallway or above a restaurant banquette, the up-and-down beams build a steady rhythm of light along the wall. The clean cylinder shape sits well in contemporary, Japandi and Moroccan-inspired interiors alike.
Care
The clear protective coating helps shield the brass, so it does not need polishing. Dust with a soft, dry cloth and avoid metal polish or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the coating. For general guidance on brass, see our brass care and polishing guide.
