Two Craft Traditions in One Cube
This kilim cube ottoman brings together two of Morocco’s most enduring artisan traditions — leatherwork and kilim weaving — in a single piece that sits as comfortably at the foot of a bed as it does beside a reading chair. The body is hand-cut from full-grain goatskin leather, and the top panel is a handwoven kilim wool patchwork in greens, burgundy, yellow, and purple, pieced from geometric squares on a floor loom. Each patchwork top is one of a kind — no two share the same color arrangement.
Made to order in small batches — please allow 5-7 business days for production before shipping.
Construction & Surface Detail
- Square shape: 15.7 x 15.7 x 15.7 in (40 x 40 x 40 cm) — a compact cube ideal as a footrest, low seat, or side table
- Full-grain goatskin leather: hand-cut panels stitched by hand in Marrakech; available in dark brown and natural tan — slight tonal shifts between hides are a mark of real leather, not a defect
- Kilim wool patchwork top: handwoven geometric squares in greens, burgundy, yellow, and purple — each top is unique
- Zipper closure: a bottom zipper lets you fill and refill the pouf as needed
- Filled or unfilled: ships flat (unfilled) by default to reduce freight cost, with a filled option available; unfilled poufs can be filled with shredded foam, recycled fabric scraps, or old clothes — avoid loose polyfill or feathers
- Weight capacity: holds up to ~250 lb (115 kg) when filled
The Craft Behind This Pouf
Abdelilah, the master leather artisan behind our poufs, works in Marrakech’s Souk Talaa leather district, hand-cutting full-grain goatskin to template before stitching each panel by hand. The kilim top is woven separately on a traditional floor loom, then pieced into a geometric patchwork — a technique where each weaver’s color choices create a pattern that never repeats exactly. Full-grain goatskin leather poufs hand-stitched in Marrakech’s Souk Talaa district use the natural strength and flexibility of goat hide, which softens gradually with use while retaining structural integrity when properly filled.
Filling Your Pouf
This pouf ships flat and unfilled to save on shipping weight and cost. Fill it yourself with shredded foam, recycled fabric scraps, or densely packed old clothing — materials that hold shape under daily use. Follow our step-by-step guide to filling your pouf for recommended materials and how to achieve a firm seat height.
Care
Wipe the leather surface with a barely damp cloth; never saturate. Condition two to three times a year to keep the goatskin supple and prevent cracking. For the kilim wool top, spot-clean gently with a damp cloth and mild soap if needed. Full guidance, including stain removal and storage, is in our leather care guide.
A Piece for Any Room
Whether you’re pulling it up as extra seating in a living room, setting a tray on it in a bedroom alcove, or tucking it under a desk for a home office footrest, this leather and kilim cube adds color and texture without dominating a space. It’s an easy piece for someone furnishing a characterful, layered home. Product Questions
How is this kilim cube different from an all-leather pouf?
This cube combines full-grain leather sides with a handwoven wool kilim top, so it has more textile texture and color variation than a smooth leather pouf. The kilim patchwork is made from handwoven panels, which means each top has its own color arrangement.
How should I clean the leather and kilim surfaces?
Wipe the leather sides with a soft, barely damp cloth and avoid soaking the seams. For the wool kilim top, spot-clean gently with cold water and mild soap, then blot dry. Do not saturate the wool or use harsh chemical cleaners.
Can the 16-inch cube be used as seating?
Yes. At 16 x 16 x 16 inches, it works as a compact extra seat, footrest, or tray-topped side table when filled firmly. It sits lower than a standard dining chair, so it is best for relaxed seating, bedrooms, reading corners, and layered lounge spaces.
