A Square Pouf with Quiet Presence
This light brown square leather ottoman — handcrafted from full-grain goat leather in Marrakech — turns a 16-inch cube into something you’ll reach for every day. Pull it up as extra seating, prop your feet after a long walk, rest a tray on it for an impromptu side table, or lower into it for meditation. The warm cognac leather carries natural tonal shifts from lighter honey to deeper caramel, and the plain surface lets the grain itself become the decoration.
Construction & Surface
- Square shape: 16-inch cube — compact enough for small rooms, stable enough to serve as seating for up to 250 lbs when properly filled
- Full-grain goat leather: supple under weight yet built to last, with natural grain and subtle tonal variation across the surface
- Plain, solid surface: no embroidery or appliqué — the leather’s own texture is the finish
- Hidden zipper closure: concealed at the base for a clean silhouette and easy access for filling
- Slight color variation is normal: hand-dyed leather shifts in tone between panels — a mark of the handmade process, not a defect
- Available filled or unfilled: choose pre-filled with polystyrene foam and cotton for immediate use, or unfilled to fill at home and save on shipping
The Craft Behind This Pouf
Each pouf is hand-cut and hand-stitched by Abdelilah, the master leather artisan behind our poufs, in the Souk Talaa workshops of Marrakech, where goat leather has been shaped into seating for generations. The artisans select each hide for consistent thickness before cutting panels by hand, then join them with tight hand-stitching through both layers of leather — a technique that distributes seating stress across the stitch rather than the hide alone. Full-grain goat leather poufs hand-stitched in Marrakech’s Souk Talaa district have been a staple of Moroccan seating for over a century, combining the material’s natural drape with durable seam construction.
Filling Your Pouf
The unfilled option ships flat to reduce freight cost significantly. Fill it yourself with shredded foam, recycled fabric scraps, or densely packed old clothing — avoid loose polyfill and feathers, which compress unevenly and create a lumpy seat. A pre-filled option with polystyrene foam and cotton is available if you’d rather skip the filling step. Follow our step-by-step guide to filling your pouf for recommended fill volumes and tips on achieving a firm, comfortable seat height.
Care
Wipe the leather with a barely damp cloth; never saturate the surface. Condition two to three times a year to keep the goat leather supple and prevent cracking. Full care guidance, including stain removal and storage, is in our leather care guide.
Styling
The warm cognac leather and clean square silhouette work across boho, minimalist, and eclectic interiors — a piece for someone furnishing a calm, characterful room. Pair it with a woven tray for a casual coffee table, or line two alongside a sofa for symmetrical footrests. See five ways to style a Moroccan pouf for more placement ideas.
For Interior Designers & Trade Buyers
Interior designers, hospitality buyers, and retail stores ordering in volume are welcome to enquire about our wholesale program for interiors, hospitality, and retail buyers — this pouf is available in multiple colorways across mixed-size runs.
A: We offer both options! You can choose a pre-stuffed pouf with premium polyester filling ready to use, or select the unstuffed version with a bottom zipper to fill yourself. The unstuffed option dramatically reduces shipping costs and allows you to customize the firmness to your preference.
A: For a 16x16" square: 50-60 ounces of polyester fiberfill. For 18x18": 60-70 ounces. You can also use old clothes or towels—about 3/4 to one full laundry basket compressed tightly.
A: This is critical! Pack all four corners FIRST, pushing filling deep into each corner until they're very firm. Then stuff the edges, and fill the center last. Soft corners = saggy pouf. The corners should feel almost hard initially. See our complete filling guide.
A: They weren't packed firmly enough. Unzip and add more filling specifically to the corners. Square poufs need extra-firm corner packing to maintain their angular shape—this is the #1 mistake people make.
A: Very, very firm—especially in the corners. It should feel too hard when you first fill it. The square shape loses definition quickly if under-stuffed, unlike round poufs which are more forgiving.
A: Yes! When properly filled (especially the corners), this square pouf supports up to 250 pounds. Make sure corners are packed tight for stability—soft corners make it feel unstable when you sit.
A: Yes! The flat edges align perfectly with furniture and don't roll or shift. The angular top is more stable for trays, drinks, or books. It looks intentional as a table, not improvised.
A: Wipe all surfaces with a soft, dry cloth weekly—the flat top collects dust. Blot spills immediately. Pay attention to the corner seams; use a small brush to clean dust from edges. Condition the leather every 6-12 months.
A: 2-3 days for production, then 7-15 days standard shipping (USA/Europe) with free shipping. Square poufs pack flatter than round ones, making them economical to ship. Express options available.
A: Yes, handcrafted in Marrakech by master artisans. Creating perfect 90-degree corners in leather requires exceptional skill. With proper care and firm stuffing, it will last 10-20+ years. The leather develops a beautiful patina over time.

Love love love my floor poufs!! My goodness they require so much to stuff. Haha. But they are perfect. They have a smell when you take them out of the packaging, but we aired them outside and know it will dissipate. Just lets you know they are genuine! *picture is of all the items I stuffed in them!
