A Two-Tone Cowhide Pouf in the Classic Moroccan Shape

This brown and white cowhide pouf takes the traditional round Moroccan pouf, 20.9 x 11.8 in (53 x 30 cm), and covers it in natural hair-on cowhide. Hair-on hide is leather that keeps the animal’s short coat, so every panel is soft to the touch and carries its own markings, from warm chestnut brown to creamy white. The panels radiate from a centre medallion on top and are outlined in raised braided stitching in a natural, sand-coloured thread, which frames each piece of hide like a seam of rope. The base is smooth brown leather.

From Abdelilah’s Workshop in Marrakech

Each pouf is cut and hand-stitched in the workshop of Abdelilah, the master leather artisan behind our poufs, near Souk Tala’a in Marrakech’s leather souk. With 16 years at the craft, he and his team cut each panel to pattern and arrange the hides by hand so the brown and white patches balance around the pouf.

Filling the Unfilled Version

Choose unfilled and the pouf arrives flat. Pack it firmly with shredded foam, recycled fabric scraps, or old clothes so it holds its round shape; skip feathers and loose polyfill, which flatten. Our step-by-step guide to filling your pouf walks you through it.

Styling & Care

Brown and white hide sits naturally with oak floors, cognac leather, linen and terracotta, and looks just as at home by a reading chair as at the foot of a bed or in a riad-style courtyard.
